L040423 Jill Davis Critical Care Conference Series: Hopeful Hearts
Please join us for one or both sessions of this year's Jill Davis Nursing conference!
The Jill Davis Intensive Care Nursing Fund was created by Stephen and Jodi Davis and their children Jenny, Tim, and Beth Anne Davis in memory of their daughter and sister Jill, who died following open heart surgery at the age of 13 months. It was their hope through this fund, annual continuing education in intensive care nursing would allow nurses to give children high-quality care that Jill received. This conference is designed for nurses and any other health professionals that care for patients in the pediatric critical care setting.
Since Children's Minnesota initiated the Heart Transplant Program a handful of years ago, we have been learning and growing immensely. We want to take this opportunity to discuss various aspects of heart failure and transplant that can foster our continued growth and empower us to give the best care possible to this population of children and teens.
This year, the Jill Davis Conference will occur over two days in a hybrid version, with the first day being in-person and the second virtual. The registration fee covers both sessions and each session contains different content from the other. Lunch will be provided on the in-person day. We hope you can join us for one or both of these conference days!
Session 1 - April 4th, 2023, 10:00am-2:30pm (in-person)
Let's take a look at some of the things leading up to heart transplant, including the history of heart transplant, cardiomyopathy, and some case studies from our own population. We also have the honor of hearing from a nurse practitioner from Sick Kids in Toronto who will discuss working with teenagers as they transition to adult care, the Director of Transplant Center Relations at LifeSource discussing important policies around equitable allocation of donated hearts, and a special guest appearance from one of our own transplant patients. Lunch will be provided!
Session 2 - April 25th, 2023, 10:00am-2:00pm (virtual)
Join us virtually as we continue to explore topics within the heart failure and transplant world. We will hear from our own heart failure team about what goes on behind the scenes of getting a new heart for a patient. We will talk about different VADs, care of a patient after a heart transplant surgery, and the future of heart transplants. A Children's psychologist will also share about the psychological considerations in patients after a heart transplant. Learn with us from the comfort of your own couch!
