This is the third of five sessions on family-centered approaches specific to the rehabilitation team. This series consists of family centered care components, incorporating education on motivational interviewing, outcome measures, goal setting, and episodic care.

Physical therapists, Occupational therapists, and Speech language pathologists

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate how to use the Goal Attainment Scale (GAS). 
  • Develop family centered SMART goals that reflect the family’s values, culture, and context utilizing the GAS. 
  • Integrate GAS into therapy planning, documentation, and team communication. 
  • Describe how to use GAS to track patient progress and engage families in interpreting outcomes. 
  • Modify goals and interventions based on feedback and evolving family needs.
