Neonatal Procedural Skill Mastery Practicum

We invite you to join us for a session of procedural skill practice with our group of expert neonatal providers at Children’s Minnesota! During this session, you will have the opportunity to practice a variety of high-risk neonatal procedures in a hands-on manner. You will also be able to partner with one of our neonatal nurse practitioners or neonatologists for questions or guidance.

You will gain valuable practice on the following procedures: Intubation, chest tube insertion, lumbar puncture, PICC line placement, umbilical line placement, peripheral arterial line placement, and interosseous insertion. Additionally, you may participate in a multidisciplinary neonatal simulation with Children’s Minnesota neonatal providers!

In the registration area, please indicate the days that you are available to participate. A site coordinator reach out to you to determine the 2-hour session assigned to you.

Target Audience

NNPs, PNPs, PAs, Hospitalists, Pediatricians, and Family Practice Physicians who care for inpatient neonates.

Learning Objectives

  • Participate in a group simulation activity
  • Demonstrate competence and engage in deliberate practice in several neonatal procedures  such as intubation, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, defibrillation/cardioversion/pacing
  • Explore self-directed practice stations with several neonatal procedures such as pericardiocentesis, PICC, umbilical line, IO, LMA, bladder tap, LP, paracentesis, PIV placement, and arterial line placement
