The Children’s Minnesota GME Office has implemented a standardized process to handle the high volume of requests for clinical rotations for medical students, residents and fellows received each academic year. This format provides our team and program partners 360-degree visibility to details that all parties need to consider as part of rotation setup, thus providing the best possible service to learners seeking experiences, and reducing confusion, duplication, missed steps, and misaligned expectations.
Beginning January 1, 2024, programs are required to formally submit their intent to send learners to Children's Minnesota sites for clinical training experiences through our rotation request application process.
Existing experiences documented in current, active PLAs with affiliated programs will be cataloged – meaning no new application will be needed to stay compliant with this process.
For any experience not currently on an active PLA, programs will be required to submit the rotation request application following the timeline, and the request must be approved before onboarding/scheduling conversations begin. Approval is issued by the GME Office only.
In the interest of ensuring quality training and onboarding experiences for learners, equitable distribution of GME administrative resources, and adequate preceptor support, the only mechanism by which to request a rotation at Children’s is a completed rotation request application – direct emails, calls, or conversations with preceptors to arrange new rotation experiences will not be sufficient documentation of intent and will not be considered without a completed application.
Programs planning to develop new rotations for trainees or a one-time experience for a particular learner should refer to the applications below.
Applications are accepted and reviewed on a quarterly basis during the timeframes listed below. Applications received after the close of the current quarterly submission window will be added to the queue for the following quarter review. Please ensure your application is submitted at least two review periods prior to a rotation beginning.
