This is an entry level course that will provide learners with a foundational understanding of simulation facilitation. Focus of this course will be on the best practice elements of pre-briefing, facilitation, debriefing, and professional integrity. Learner will have the opportunity to put theory into practice by participating in a variety of scaffolded activities to navigate the methodology and challenges of simulation facilitation. Learner will also have the opportunity to obtain real-time feedback and post-course mentoring from educators that are CHSE (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator) certified.

Included is a required pre-learning video (45 minutes) along with reference materials that we ask you to view prior to attending the course. You will have access to pre-learning in this course after you register.

Target Audience

Children's Minnesota staff to include: Clinical Educators, Clinical Education Specialists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Instructors, Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Allied Health Professionals, and any others interested in learning simulation facilitation skills.

  • Simulation learners and employees should utilize the parking ramp at the bottom of the hill when they arrive. Parking up top is reserved for visitors but often fills up fast on certain days. We try to keep that area open for visiting Foundation donors and committee meeting attendees or visitors/employees needing special accommodation due to physical limitations or injury. 
  • Enter through the lower level EMPLOYEE entrance across from the parking ramp (red circle on map below).  For visitors who do not have badge access, pick up the phone just inside the doors and let security know you are there for the Sim Center.  In some cases, a Sim Center staff member will be there to greet you and using the phone won’t be necessary.  All employees have badge access to this door.     
  • Most classes will meet in the Improve classrooms on the left as you enter the lower level of the CBC employee entrance. The Sim Center is located on to the right on this floor.  While visiting the Sim Center, please refrain from wandering outside of the immediate simulation area unless accompanied by a Sim Center or ERTC staff member.   
  • Refrigerator and microwave will be available to store/heat your lunch if you bring it and the cafeteria has limited “grab and go” options.
