ForwardL2026 Pathway to Equity and Inclusive Care: An AI-supported Escape Room Experience
This immersive, simulation-based learning experience is for clinical and patient-facing staff to apply principles of equity, inclusion and cultural humility in a dynamic "escape room" format.
Participants will engage with an AI-supported patient scenario involving an adolescent presenting with abdominal pain, requiring teams to navigate clinical decision-making alongside inclusive communication practices.
Through interactive activities - including EMR review, lab selection, comfort care and structured reflection - learners will practice using affirming language, addressing implicit bias, and incorporating cultural and religious considerations into care delivery. The session emphasizes real-time application of gender-affirming care, trauma-informed communication, and respectful patient engagement to improve outcomes and reduce emotional harm.

Target Audience
Clinical and patient-facing staff: Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, residents, fellows, and medical students.
Learning Objectives
- Describe gender-affirming care and practice communication with patient using appropriate pronouns and scripted medical history and assessment in a trans-gender youth
- Demonstrate use of comfort measures, pharmacologic & non-pharmacologic means to reduce pain with procedures, and demonstrate use of appropriate and non-threatening language
- Explain the purpose of Safety Learning Reports and practice reviewing the report analysis in the SBAR format
