L040126: Implementation of PCAs in outpatient cancer and blood disorders clinic
This activity is designed to improve the healthcare team’s ability to recognize severe pain earlier and initiate patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) in the outpatient clinic prior to hospital admission. By strengthening nursing knowledge, competence, and confidence with PCA setup and pain assessment, the activity aims to improve timely pain management, reduce delays in symptom relief, and support more efficient transitions to inpatient care.

Learning Objectives
- Describe the clinical rationale and institutional guidelines for initiating patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) in the outpatient clinic prior to hospital admission.
- Demonstrate appropriate assessment of severe pain and identify patients who would benefit from PCA initiation in the outpatient oncology clinic.
- Implement safe setup and management of PCA therapy in the outpatient setting according to institutional policy to improve timely pain control and patient outcomes.
