L082825 Clinical Ethics Case Review: What is the Goal? Life sustaining interventions in children with life limiting conditions

August 28, 2025

The term "life limited" is ambiguous. For some diagnoses this can mean months, others it can mean years. And diagnoses we once thought to be lethal have shifted to being now considered life limiting. There is an important ethical question then in when are life sustaining interventions appropriate for patients with life limiting conditions. This ethics case review we will explore two cases where these questions arose. We will present the cases, the ethical questions, and what considerations were relevant for the clinical ethics analysis that informed the recommendations.

Clinical Ethics Case Review will explore real cases to help clinicians understand how to identify, approach, and manage ethical issues. Every other month we will present a real case and review the ethical issues, provide ethical analysis, and discuss ways to approach these in practice. This educational opportunity will be beneficial for all clinical staff and especially for early career clinicians.

These activities will be held bi-monthly, virtual, 4th Thursday from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Target Audience
