Clinical Rotation Request Process

Children's Minnesota has a standardized process for managing clinical rotation requests from medical students, residents, and fellows. This structured approach ensures clarity, efficiency, and consistency while supporting high-quality educational experiences.

All programs must formally submit a rotation request application to send learners to Children’s Minnesota for clinical training.

  • Existing experiences documented in current, active Program Letters of Agreement (PLAs) with affiliated programs are cataloged and do not require a new application.
  • For any experience not covered under an active PLA, programs must submit a rotation request application according to the designated timeline. Approval from the GME Office is required before onboarding or scheduling can proceed.

Programs planning to develop new rotations for trainees or arrange a one-time experience for a specific learner should refer to the applications below.

Application Submission & Review Timeline

Applications are accepted and reviewed quarterly during the timeframes listed below. Submissions received after the current window closes will be reviewed in the following quarter. To ensure adequate processing time, please submit applications at least two review periods before the intended rotation start date.

  •  Q1: January 1 – March 15 (submissions open)

  •  Q2: April 1 – June 15 (submissions open)

  •  Q3: July 1 – September 15 (submissions open)

  •  Q4: October 1 – December 15 (submissions open)

To maintain the quality of training experiences, ensure equitable distribution of resources, and provide appropriate preceptor support, rotation requests must be submitted through the formal application process. Direct emails, phone calls, or informal discussions with preceptors will not be considered without a completed application.
