TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AT CHILDREN'S MINNESOTA
Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathic Medicine, Resident, or Fellows
- Clinical Rotation (hands on, for credit): Interested applicants must identify and secure a Children’s Minnesota professional staff member who is available to act as the official preceptor. Once a preceptor has been identified, the applicant must create a student account on Clinician Nexus and then search for clinical experiences and submit an application through Clinician Nexus' online marketplace. Any hands-on experiences require an affiliation agreement between Children's Minnesota and the trainee's home program.
- Clinical Research (extracurricular or for credit): Interested applicants must identify and secure a Children’s Minnesota professional staff member who is available to act as the primary investigator. Once a PI has been identified, the applicant must create a student account on Clinician Nexus and then search for research experiences and submit an application through Clinician Nexus' online marketplace.
- Observer/Shadowing (hands-off, not for credit): Interested applicants must be at the Graduate Medical training level or higher, and must identify and secure a preceptor for their experience who agrees to supervise the applicant at all times for the duration of the experience. Once a preceptor is identified, the applicant must create a student account on Clinician Nexus and then search for observe/shadowing experiences and submit an application through Clinician Nexus' online marketplace.
APP Trainees
Interested trainees are to go to Clinician Nexus and create a student account. From there, they can fill in the appropriate application for either a PA or APRN rotation request. If all information fields are not filled in, the application will not be considered. Whether an APRN student in an in or out of state program: nursing faculty in advanced practice nursing programs must hold unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse and as an advanced practice registered nurse with current registration in Minnesota. Any hands-on experiences require an affiliation agreement between Children's Minnesota and the trainee's home program.
Social Work

Pharmacy Resident

Disclaimers:
- Children's Minnesota has elected to partner solely with programs that have an in-person component to their training and will not be offering rotational opportunities to students of exclusively online programs.
- Applications for rotations must be submitted at least 3 months prior to the requested start date.
- Applications from any for-profit institution or any institutions located outside of the United States will not be considered.
- Staff at Children’s Minnesota cannot match interested applicants with a Children's Minnesota professional staff member to act as a preceptor nor provide contact information beyond what is available publicly in our Find a Doctor database.
- Submission of application materials does not mean a rotation has been approved.
- Children's Minnesota's Medical Education Department will notify trainees directly via email if their rotation has been approved or if Children's Minnesota is unable to accommodate a rotation experience.
- Trainees that have been accepted for a rotation experience at Children's must complete their required onboarding at least 2-weeks prior to starting at Children's or the proposed experience will be canceled and any future requests will not be accepted.
- If a rotation is no longer needed, the Medical Education Department must be notified immediately.
Additional Requirements:
Prior to the start of an approved rotation with Children's Minnesota, the following must be completed and/or on file with Children's Minnesota:
- Current affiliation agreement between Children's Minnesota and the training program. Children's Minnesota will initiate the agreement once the rotational experience has been approved.
- Trainee must be willing to complete a Minnesota DHS Background Study with fingerprinting and, if applicable, obtain a Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Residency Permit, prior to onboarding for the rotation.
- All onboarding items assigned to the trainee must be completed at least 2-weeks prior to the start of the rotation.
