E2024 TIEP Module 4: Blunt Cerebrovascular Injuries

Pediatric blunt cerebral vascular injuries (BCVI) are rare but potentially life-threatening conditions that result from trauma to the blood vessels supplying the brain. These injuries, often caused by incidents such as motor vehicle accidents, falls, or sports-related trauma, pose unique challenges in children due to their developing anatomy and physiological differences from adults. This module will explore the mechanisms of BCVI in the pediatric population, emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, and review the latest guidelines for management and treatment to minimize the risk of long-term neurological deficits. Understanding BCVI is crucial for improving outcomes in pediatric trauma care.
