E060926 Legacy Lecture: Harold Katkov, MD Cardiovascular Lecture: New initiatives for Pediatric Shock

This year's professorship was presented by John M. Costello, MD, MPH. Dr Costello is the Vice Chair of Clinical Research for the Department of Pediatrics and a Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He also serves as the Director of Research for the Children’s Heart Center and is an attending pediatric cardiac intensivist in the CICU at MUSC.  

Dr. Costello’s research focuses on perioperative clinical trials and outcomes research in critically ill children with cardiac disease. He is a Steering Committee member of the NICHD-funded Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network (CPCCRN) and a MPI in the NHLBI-funded Pediatric Heart Network.  He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4) and the Steering Committee for the Collaborative Research for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (CoRe-PCICS). He is a Senior Associate Editor for Cardiology in the Young and serves on the Editorial Board for the World Journal for Pediatric and Congenial Heart Surgery. 

Dr. Costello is a Past President of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society. He is the Inaugural Chair of the American Heart Association’s Pediatric and Congenital Critical Care Committee and a member of the AHA’s Council on Lifelong Congenital Heart Disease and Heart Health in the Young Leadership Committee. He is the Board Chair-elect for the Children’s Heart Foundation.
