E2025 ACTFAST (Adopting Comprehensive Training for Firearm Safety in Trauma Centers) - Trauma Clinicians
These modules are a component of a research study whose primary aim is to increase the adoption, implementation, and sustainability of a universal firearm injury prevention intervention within a level 1 pediatric trauma center. Additionally, this study aims to increase firearm injury prevention knowledge, attitudes, and safe storage practices among parents of trauma patients, as well as increase clinicians' knowledge and confidence in delivering a firearm injury prevention intervention. Research shows that clinicians are hesitant to inquire about safe firearm storage or personal firearm practices, despite firearm-related injuries being the leading cause of death in children ages 1-19 years.
Target Audience
Physicians, Advanced Practices Nurses, Physician Associate (Assistant), Registered Nurses, and Social Workers not participating in the screening and counseling part of the ACTFAST program.
Learning Objectives
- Increase clinicians' knowledge and confidence in delivering a firearm injury prevention intervention.
- Articulate the importance of screening for firearm safety, resources available to support injury prevention efforts, and strategies for having these conversations with patients and caregivers.
