12th Annual Pediatric Wound Management and Suturing Workshop

Workshop provides both lecture- and skills-based learning opportunities for attendees in order to learn more about suturing techniques, considerations for laceration repair in pediatric patients, the use sedation and other adjuncts in wound management, and other knowledge and skills related to acute wound management. 

Target Audience

Physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants, and Nurses who suture. 

Learning Objectives

1. Describe the effect of wound management procedures & identify the phases and processes of wound healing.
2. Discuss the management of various types of wounds: including the appropriate wound closure technique, selection of suture/wound closure material, cleaning, and preparation of the wound for closure.
3. Describe management of certain facial wounds, hand wounds, and burns and discuss criteria for referral to specialists.
4. Describe various age appropriate techniques (both pharmacological and non-pharmacological) to manage pediatric anxiety and pain that may improve the experience of the pediatric wound repair procedure.
5. Identify essential documentation components of wound repair, as well as specific post-procedure instructions.
6. Demonstrate the ability to select the appropriate instruments and suture material to perform various types of suture techniques.
7. Demonstrate the techniques used for tissue undermining, the corrections of simple tissue deficits, and the application of wound adhesive.
